His first full-length album, “Weekender,” produced under the guidance of the illustrious Michael Wojewoda, not only secured the Album of the Year title at the Ontario Folk Music Awards (2022) but also found its way onto national airwaves. The music video for his track “Fall Apart” garnered international acclaim, securing awards at prestigious film festivals.
With his sophomore album “Running Away,” a collaboration with Montreal’s Oliver Charles, Voltz dares to explore uncharted musical territories. We at LyricVids were thrilled to be part of the “Superhero” journey. When asked about his choice of an animated lyric video, Jeremy’s answer was as simple as it was exciting: “I mean, isn’t it obvious? Nothing says animation like superheroes! I knew immediately I wanted a comic book look, but with a modern twist. I also really love the lyrics of this song and wanted to hi-light them, so a lyric video was a no-brainer.” The idea of fusing a comic book aesthetic with a modern twist resonated deeply with his vision. And so, the collaboration began.
The lyric video for “Superhero” was released on August 9th, and it’s a visual feast for the senses. Custom illustrations depict an enigmatic superhero soaring through the skies, which may or may not resemble Voltz himself, adorned in a caped hoodie and denim jeans. The superhero’s actions mirror the song’s lyrics, showcasing his might as he dashes through the cityscape and delivers one hell of a punch. The visual style draws inspiration from vintage comic books, adorned with bold lines and a striking blue-black color palette. The infusion of 3D elements breathes life into every frame, rendering the scenes dynamic and captivating.
The lyrics themselves take center stage, boldly recounting the superhero’s exploits. As the chorus kicks in, the lyrics zoom through the clouds, intertwining with the superhero’s journey and adding a mesmerizing layer to the video. Jeremy’s favorite moment? He says, “There’s so many good parts, I love all the little attentions to detail. The way the “Superhero” text scrolls behind me while standing on the corner of a building in the chorus, it looks so badass. I also love the little superhero guy flying past Earth on the line “Maybe I am alien royalty” (which is my favourite lyric in the song).“
