Binks – Trauma Bond

In the heart of the Midwest, where cornfields stretch for miles and small towns paint the landscape, emerged an artist named Binks. Hailing from the west side of Michigan, Binks started rapping in his basement at the tender age of 11. Fast forward to his senior year in high school, and Binks released his first album, hustling to distribute it himself within the confines of the school walls. The journey continued at Eastern Michigan University, where he not only honed his engineering skills for fellow musicians but also dropped mixtapes, paving the way for his enduring passion for music.

Fast forward again to September, and Binks dropped “Trauma Bond,” a poignant track shedding light on the rampant Methamphetamine abuse issues plaguing southwest Michigan. Collaborating with LyricVids, Binks sought to bring his raw narrative to life visually. The song, a departure from his usual style, dives deep into the dark underbelly of real-world struggles faced by individuals and families globally.

The rapper chose the medium of a lyric video to amplify the impact of “Trauma Bond.” In an exclusive interview, he shared, “The lyrics are deep and puncturing in this song, it was essential to have them on the screen for viewers to read along.” The lyric video unfolds with visuals of the inner-city life and streets of Michigan, showcasing the harsh realities of impoverished streets and deteriorating houses and trailers. The forgotten communities, coupled with drug reference visuals, create a striking backdrop that mirrors the intensity of the lyrics.

What sets this lyric video apart is its bold choice of a large, yellow, marker-style font. The lyrics are presented in a big and in-your-face manner, ensuring that viewers can’t escape the powerful words. This deliberate choice serves the purpose of making the lyrics easily readable, connecting the audience with the depth of the artist’s storytelling.

Binks’ favorite moments in the video are the opening and closing scenes, where the camera navigates through a small trailer park. These visuals effectively set the scene for the song’s meaning, emphasizing the struggles of poor rural areas, often plagued by abuse and trauma, with minimal resources for support.

For up-and-coming independent artists like Binks, lyric videos prove to be an invaluable tool for sharing their music with new fans and gaining followers. The combination of compelling visuals and poignant lyrics creates a dynamic experience that resonates with audiences on a deeper level.

So, what’s next for Binks? In his own words, “We are exactly where we are supposed to be.” As he continues to make music, Binks remains committed to sharing the raw, unfiltered realities of life through his art, ensuring that every lyric carries a weight that lingers long after the music fades away.
