St. Louis-based orchestral pop-punk band Wake The Sky is making waves with their latest release, “OVER IT“, featuring Ken Savy. Known for their unique sound that blends classical instruments with the raw energy of punk rock, the band creates a one-of-a-kind experience that resonates with fans of both orchestral music and punk alike. Their live performances are quite noteworthy, showcasing a dynamic range that can’t be fully captured in their recordings.
At the heart of Wake The Sky is Alex, a driven and multifaceted artist who balances housecleaning, full-time studies in music education, and even improv classes alongside his passion for music (unbelievable!). He dreams of one day making music his full-time career. In his downtime, Alex finds joy in caring for his two pet African dwarf frogs, Rib and Bit, whose quirky names reflect his creative and playful personality.
When asked about the meaning behind “OVER IT”, Alex shared a deeply personal story. “The song is about getting over a toxic relationship. From my own experience, there was a time when I was stuck in a relationship that I knew was bad for me. Every time I tried to step away, I was easily convinced to stay. Then one day, I finally had enough and stepped away for good.” Musically, the song explores new territory for Wake The Sky, combining a bouncier, angrier vibe with an edge of uncertainty that reflects the emotional weight of its themes. “When we started writing together, I knew that I wanted a song that sounded angsty and angry. Overall, the vibe for this song is different from anything we’ve released before,” Alex explained. “OVER IT” also marks the band’s first collaboration with another artist, further setting it apart from their previous work.
To celebrate the release, Wake The Sky teamed up with LyricVids to create a professional animated lyric video inspired by the single’s striking cover artwork. The artwork, featuring a giant orange sun looming over a desolate black-and-white landscape, served as a creative jumping-off point for the video. Visual elements such as mountainscapes, shipwrecks, abandoned houses, and fire were incorporated to convey the emotions of resilience, destruction, and renewal that are central to the song. Matching the contrasting fonts from the cover art, the lyric video extends the single’s visual identity, creating a cohesive experience for fans. “My favorite part of the video is how it takes the art concept of the single and builds onto it. I love the style and how it matches what is going on in the music” Alex said.
For independent artists like Wake The Sky, lyric videos are a powerful promotional tool. They provide an engaging way to showcase new music while offering visually captivating content that is easily shareable on social media. Fans can connect with the music on a deeper level by interacting with the lyrics, and artists can amplify their reach with content designed for reposting and engagement. For Alex, the decision to create a lyric video was both creative and practical. “I wanted to do something different that would stand out from my last releases but wouldn’t break the bank since I’m an independent artist funding this entire project.“
Looking ahead, Wake The Sky has more music in the works. Alex shared plans to release another single in the coming months and eventually compile enough material for a debut album, which will coincide with a larger marketing push. He expressed gratitude for the support so far, saying, “I had a wonderful time collaborating with LyricVids and would like to thank anyone who spent a few seconds of their time reading this article.“
