Growing up in the small town of Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada, singer / songwriter Rebecca Rain has always had a soft spot for Country music. Citing some of her earliest influences as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and June Carter Cash, this emerging artist brings a new fiery energy to the genre. Although she now splits her time between Nashville and home, Rebecca grew up in a tight knit musical family and found her roots in an old piano her parents brought home for her brothers. It was there that she began to play and write and immerse herself into the world of music and for decades to come. She then learnt to play guitar, play shows and festivals which all lead her to the recording studio. Of thousands of musicians who submit every year to get a chance at the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase at the popular Canadian Country music festival Boots and Hearts, Rebecca Rain got her shot in 2019 by filling the 8th and final contestant spot. Showcasing her music to the nation, this new artist has already taken the stage with award-winning artists like Meghan Patrick, Tim Hicks, James Barker Band and Canadian Country music icon, Charlie Major.
On August 26th, Rebecca released her newest single “I Don’t Take Shit” from her upcoming debut album. When asked about what the song is about she says, “This song is about owning your self worth and not settling for any less than you deserve in relationships.” A theme many of us might be familiar with. We’ve all found ourselves at that fork in the road where following our heart inevitably leads to heartache and the other path, however daunting, results in liberation and self rule. This song is powerful, dripping in female empowerment with a side of cheekiness that has that Shania Twain – “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” energy. We asked Rebecca how this track differs from her previous releases and she said, “In the past, I’ve written a lot of down-tempo country songs about heartache and sadness – this time around I wanted to write a song that was up-tempo and had more of an anthemic, fun, and uplifting message behind it.” Mission accomplished! If you’re not singing into your hairbrush mic in the mirror to this new single, what are you even doing?!
On September 7th, Rebecca teamed up with our team here at LyricVids for an exclusive lyric video for her newest song “I Don’t Take Shit”. We asked Rebecca why she chose a lyric video for this release and she said, “I personally love lyric videos – I feel like they’re such a great, creative way of diving a little deeper into the meaning behind the lyrics of the songs you love and I wanted fans of “I Don’t Take Shit” to have a fun way of singing along to it.” As an emerging artist in the industry, brand is everything. Working together, we were able to bring her sassy single cover art to life in a simple yet impactful way. This creates cohesiveness between the single and the video which is always a strong decision. Starting with a close zoom on those badass boots on top of the guitar case, it’s already clear that this queen is not to be messed with. Working our way up the leather pants and motorcycle jacket, viewers still haven’t put a face to the voice yet. As the chorus bangs in with “I don’t take shit…” fans finally get to see the drop-dead gorgeous singer in all of her cowboy hat wearing glory. The lyrics are displayed around the screen donning an eye-popping bronze suede texture which is perfectly fitting for the genre. We asked Rebecca what her favourite part of the video was and she said, “I love how you incorporated the single artwork in such a fun, sassy way!”
What’s next for Rebecca Rain? She says, “I’m currently working on an album in Nashville and will be releasing another single in the coming months. SO excited!” We can’t wait! You can listen to her across all music streaming platforms or follow along across social media!
