Trisha & Thara – Regret

Trisha & Thara are a teen pop sister duo hailing from the Greater Boston area. These singer/songwriters have been creating music together since grade school. Not just versed in lyricism, these girls started piano lessons at age 4, and can play ukulele and guitar. With a trained music background including education from the Chicago School of Rock and the Lacefield Music School in Missouri, they have been performing in different cities around the country, opening at festivals and other popular city shows. They cite their biggest inspirations to be artists including The Weeknd, Arian Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Lewis Capaldi and Khalid. In December 2020, they released their debut single ‘You Used To Be‘ which has hit over 40,000 streams. These two have a unique sisterly bond and with 55,000 Spotify plays, they are on the right track to do great things in the music industry.

On August 6th, Trisha & Thara released their second single ‘Regret‘. This song gives me total bedroom pop vibes and could be a big hit amongst the youth that enjoy a lo-fi sound. We reached out to the girls and they said, “Our sophomore single “Regret” is about how one feels when they leave a relationship and want to reverse their decision and come back. The emotions in the song makes the listener rethink their choice and leaves them wishing they hadn’t ended it.” They mention this song is different from their first single and say, “‘You Used to Be’ is a chill laid back song about a person you loved who is no longer present, and how the feelings and emotions remain. ‘Regret’ is a continuation to our debut single. In ‘Regret’ we really wanted to add an impactful bridge, with many background vocals and a call and response part. Both songs are connected, yet different in a way.”

On September 24th, Trisha & Thara released a professionally illustrated lyric video to accompany their single release for ‘Regret‘. When LyricVids first had a meeting with these stars they expressed that they wanted this video to tell a story but not to be overly literal and use a more creative artistic interpretation. When asked why they chose a lyric video they said, “The best way to tell the story of ‘Regret’ is through a lyric video because it allows people to visualize the story and connect with it as well.” They aren’t wrong. As they mentioned, this song tells a story of love and loss and the feelings you get when you realize you’ve made a mistake but it’s too late. This video uses many different visual elements to tell that story to the fans. The video starts with a beautiful young woman sitting on the moon in the night sky. The girl is faceless which was a great choice because this allows for the viewers to imagine themselves as the girl on the moon – she could be any of us. The music video pans down to showcase two houses across the street from one another, one with a young man in the window and the other with the young woman. We get to see these characters close up in the next scene as they are both sullenly are gazing out of their respective windows. The lyrics are fitting to this scene because they read “when you left me it hurt oh so bad” which paints that picture for the viewer and fills in any gaps.

During the hook we see the moving clouds in the sky and the rising sun which we later find out is the catalyst to the story. The sun shines over the sky and we notice in verse 2 that the young woman’s house is now brighter but the young man’s house across the street is still under the clouds and in the dark. We can sense there is a change in the air for our characters. I particularly like the scene where there is a note left on the doorstep that reads “it hurt oh so bad” and then in the next shot we see that note ripped up on a table and the lyrics read “broke my heart into little pieces“. Finally we see a shot of the young woman who is bright and lively in her flowing pink dress, standing confidently and the viewer can see that this is representing her growth and her ability to move on and feel powerful again. It cuts to the young man’s hand holding his phone where he can see this image of his love and he is realizing that she has moved on and there is a regretful energy that fans can certainly feel and perhaps even empathize with.

This lyric video doesn’t opt for the bright colors that a usual pop music video might choose. Instead, the darker blue and pink tones are more appropriate for the melancholy theme to this tale. It’s powerful when showcasing the juxtaposition / different disposition’s of each character on their journey when we see the darker blues vs. the brighter pinks. What unifies this video is definitely the font choices being more simpler fonts but utilizing both sans serif and a serif effectively. The creative choice to have the lyrics glow was really advantageous to this music video and really helped bring light to a darker toned video. When asked what their favorite part of the video was, Trisha & Thara said “It’s so hard to choose which scene is our favorite. The whole lyric video is amazing and we love it so much!

The professional lyric video for this new song was really able to capture the artist’s vision and tell the story appropriately to their fan base demographic using endearing illustrations, a subtle color palette and fun glowing fonts. Trisha & Thara don’t miss a beat and are planning on staying on top of their music and keeping busy with shows back to back across the Greater Boston area. They highlight that they are working towards their goal of writing and releasing more songs and are looking forward to hitting the studio.
