At LyricVids we take pride in the fact that we are a female led animation studio and digital agency run by co-owner and creative director Jess Robert with the backing of strong female energy from our lead illustrator Shayla and Operations Manager Krisi. With the representation of women in the music industry being extremely low, 20% of the artists to be more precise, we thought we could celebrate by promoting some of our favorite female artists that we have worked with!
KARRA
L.A. based singer/songwriter and vocal producer KARRA (born Kara Jillian Madden) has made some
serious waves as a woman not only in the music industry, but more specifically in the world of production
and sound design which through the years, is known to be predominantly a male-ran industry (according to the USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, only 2.6% of music producers are female). KARRA is a BOSS and is known for having Splice’s (music creation and collaboration platform) best selling vocal sample packs, and for a company worth over $500 million, that is saying alot. KARRA has collaborated with Splice and launched KARRA Presents which is a new vocal label to highlight upcoming vocalists all the while releasing her own epic music!

LU KALA

Music played an integral part of her upbringing, being the daughter of a pastor, she grew up singing at her local church. This orange-haired fiery songstress began her music career writing for artists such as Jennifer Hudson. In 2018, Kala won the grand prize in the RBC’s Emerging Musician Program, winning $20,000 worth of private studio recording time as well as a performance spot in Canada’s Walk of Fame 20th Anniversary Gala at the historic Royal York hotel in Toronto. LU KALA is dripping with female empowerment energy and is a great role model for young women. This fierce diva proves that queens come in all shapes, colors and sounds and this lady is proud of who she is and she ain’t gonna change for no man.

Rosemarie Booth, aka Vybrant Vibes is an aspiring new electronic bass musician, producer, DJ and vocalist. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, VV has put everything she has into creating her music which has paid off big time as her fan base continues to grow rapidly. This independent artist started her career DJing and producing in 2016 and has become extremely proficient in multiple digital audio workstations including Abelton, Reaper, Pro Tools and Cubase. Known for her fun and infectious persona and her ornate blending abilities, this powerhouse electronic dance musician is a bold new welcomed addition to the ever-expanding world of EDM.

Sarah King
Singer/songwriter Sarah King has made a grand entrance into the music industry. Currently based in Vermont, King has roots in Georgia, New York and originally Maine. Her love of music began at an early age but she notes that it didn’t come easy. Growing up in a household that didn’t overly support her career choice, King wasn’t allowed to watch MTV or attend concerts. Being true to herself (and a total boss babe), she bought her first guitar with her own money after high school and went on to study opera and classical music in college. In 2021, she won the NEMA award for Songwriter of the Year and held a nomination in the Americana Band of the Year category. Now known as the new queen of gothic story telling, King is nothing short of fierce (which is fitting as she has the word tattooed on her arm).

Kinnie Starr
Kinnie Starr is a Juno Award winning Canadian artist. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, this trilingual star has shaken things up in the music industry since the 90s. Starr began her red carpet career after signing to Island/Def Jam Records in 1997. She has appeared on the popular Lilith Fair tour and even has sang in Cirque du Soleil productions. In 2011, Starr was honoured as a Pioneer in Canadian Hip Hop Culture by the ManifesTO Festival. Her career in the music industry has been fueled by her activism for human rights including gender equality and indigenous rights which is a subject that is close to home as Starr herself is of Mohawk roots. Although Starr recognizes her privileges to be born and raised in Canada, she recognizes that it comes with a heavy conscience.
